Building up your own college scholarship program

by Dorothy Penn

Parents to last-year-high-school teenagers must be concerned about the search for university and college sports or academic scholarship programs or funds. It is obvious, in this day who does not want his/her children to have the best education for free? Well, actually you do not have to draw lots to see what happens, if you can make it happen with a little of imagination, perseverance and our advice.

First of all let's talk about the different types of scholarship programs available in the educational market. They are basically two:

- College scholarship program awarded by colleges and universities, which divides in theses subcategories:

- Academic scholarships: The most popular scholarship program that benefits the best high-school students.

- Athletic scholarships: This denomination can vary, since this type of scholarship is not only given to the best athlete students, but to arts and performers as well.

- Departmental scholarships; universities and colleges grant these scholarships with the aim to keep top students at their academic departments.

- University and college scholarship programs awarded by financial supportive institutions and groups as: Unions, associations, individuals, employers, corporations and religious groups. These scholarships are granted to the students who belong or are somehow linked to these groups and institutions.

Scholarship program college and university cover the complete, half or a determine part of all the expenses that cover tuition for all the years the career takes, health insurance as well as accommodation and educational material expenses for students from other states and of overseas. An international scholarship program can even cover the departure or roundtrip flight tickets if the student demonstrates that he/she can not afford them.

Another thing to clear up about this is the student loans. You have to very honest about your financial possibilities in a long-term basis. A loan means a debt, so you consider you can pay back to the university or college after the end of the career?

If your answer is not, then stick to the scholarship possibility which means somebody else paying the education of your child.

You can do a search online and find many scholarship programs fro almost any university and college of the country and from international institutions. They want to get all your personal information before they let their info out, so they can bombard you with financial -auto financing to be precise- options. So, what is best for you to pursue financial funds you can control as managing you personal savings and turning to alternative sources of income as Internet, as many American families are doing now.
